Day One

It was a bit of a busy start dat with a few tired faces.. We had to get up for breakfast at 0645 and taking into consideration the clock changes that made it 0545, which after a long slog on the route out didn't give us a lot of sleep... That said all the pupils were up and ready to go and we headed down to the ski hire shop to sort out out gear

Once kitted up we headed up the mountain on a gondola lift with stunning views and thankfully once we passed the snow line we were greeted with stunning surroundings and great sunny ski conditions.

We met our instructors and were soon grouped by ability and began our initial session.  Miss Ball headed off in a vain attempt to keep up with the advanced skiers which has kept her nice and quiet this evening :-)

Myself, Mr Buck and Mr Thompson stayed with the beginners who along with Mrs Handord had a great time getting to grips with side stepping, snow plot breaking and turning.  It seemed hopeless for r first ten minutes with plenty of funny falls but it never ceases to amaze me how quickly young people pick up the art of skiing and I know that they will be surpassing many of us 'experienced' skiers with a no fear mentality before the week is out.

The very purple Mrs Hanford!!

After a great first day we headed down to the supermarket to resupply on that essentials.. Pop/crisps/sweets... And actually lots of bottled water and fruit for some in-between meal snacking!!

A nice meal in the hotel and the plan is for an early night tonight as we are off out bowling tomorrow night.

TWONK(s) of the day.... From tomorrow this will be decided by pupils but I've taken the liberty tonight.... And the award goes to.....

...Jaiden O'Reilly-Saunders & Mr Buck!!! Jaiden left his ski pass in the bus so he and Mr Buck had to head back to fetch it and join the group at the top of the mountain... Unfortunately Mr Buck is navigationally challenged and decided to take several different gondola routes before finding us... Very scenic apparently but clearly the long way around... Well done gents!!!

So and early night and early start tomorrow with conditions looking good again, we expect to hit the pistes by 0900.  I will do my best to get more photos tomorrow of the whole group.

I will finish off with a quick blog home from Sam Williams (Year 11):

This is Sam and I've been pulled into writing this, before I came I thought skiing looked kinda simple but after my first day I take back my words, also I think I'm the worst here so far!!!

This is Mr Cross.. Sam isn't the worst so far... Mr Thompson and Mr Buck would definitely give him a run for his money!!

Best wishes to all back home and keep sending the messages.. We love to read them out at dinner time to the whole groups :-)

Mr C

  19. Hope the ankle is holding up Maya (and not giving you as much pain as being iphoneless!). I wonder if the rest of the Mullocks are coping without you? Jimbo - Are you playing safe and sticking to a diet of bread and chocolate?

You both missed a good wedding - mum didn't disappoint on the dance floor and there was even a bit of dad-dancing!

Looking forward to the Day 2 summary. Keep up the good work Mr Cross.
